What Qurioh does
Qurioh lets you photograph interesting things — a monument, a building, a dish — and it writes you a short story about each one, saved as a searchable journal on your device.
What data we collect
Photos you capture. When you take a photo, it is saved on your device and a resized copy is sent to our backend service so that we can identify what's in it and write its story. We do not use your photos to train models, and the copy sent to our backend is not retained after the story is generated.
Location information you type. If you type a city name after taking a photo, we send that text with the image to improve identification. If you grant location permission (only prompted when identification is uncertain), the coordinates are sent the same way, for the same purpose, and are not stored on our servers after processing.
Nothing else. Qurioh does not collect your name, email, contacts, browsing history, advertising identifier, or device identifiers. There are no analytics SDKs, no third-party trackers, and no account signup.
Where your data lives
- On your device: your photos, your journal entries, your bookmarks, your typed cities. This is your data; uninstalling Qurioh deletes it.
- On our backend, briefly: a resized image and any typed location, held only long enough to generate one story, then discarded.
- With Anthropic (our AI provider): the same resized image and typed location are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for identification and story generation. Anthropic's data handling terms apply during that request; see anthropic.com/legal/privacy. Anthropic does not use API traffic to train models.
Permissions Qurioh asks for
- Camera — required to take photos. Qurioh never accesses the camera without your active tap.
- Location — optional. Only requested if identification is uncertain and you choose to share it to improve the result.
Sharing
When you tap "Send as postcard," Qurioh renders an image of your card and hands it to your phone's native share sheet. You choose who to send it to (Instagram, WhatsApp, iMessage, etc.). Qurioh itself does not upload or store the shared image anywhere.
Children
Qurioh is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to Qurioh, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change what data leaves your device, we will update this page and note the change at the top.
